Stray Bullet Near Hackettstown Middle School Spurs Lockdown, Cops Say

After sweep of campus with K-9 unit, no additional ammo or weapons found, police report.

A bullet located in the area of Hackettstown Middle School Wednesday morning forced the campus into a shelter in place and sweep of the area by police, according to Hackettstown Sgt. Darren Tynan.

Police found a “large caliber handgun round” located in the school area after school personnel first spotted the bullet, Tynan said, which then put the campus into the lockdown for nearly an hour and-a-half.

The Middle School was searched with assistance from the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit, and no additional items were located, Tynan said.
