Pedestrian Hospitalized After Hit by Car, Cops Say

Elderly woman was crossing street mid-block when motorist struck her, police report.

An elderly Hackettstown woman was struck by a car Sunday and taken to a hospital, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Police and Hackettstown Rescue Squad members responded to the intersection of East Valley View Avenue and Third Street regarding reports of a struck pedestrian, Tynan said.

When patrol arrived, it was determined Curtis Bell, 57, of Independence Township, was traveling south on East Valley View Avenue and did not see the pedestrian, Grete Oldenburg, 76, crossing the street mid-block, Tynan said.

Bell struck Oldenburg with his car, causing her to suffer back pain, Tynan said.

Oldenburg was transported to Morristown Medical Center. Bell was uninjured an no summonses were issued, Tynan said.
