Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith Sound Off at Jets Camp; Who Do You Like?

After a mess of a season, the Jets look to move forward with the right signal caller. Who do you think is the better option this season?

Practice makes perfect, and if you take a look at the Jets’ performance last season, they need a lot of practice. But don't fear Jets fans, Gang Green is already on the practice field at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park. Hundreds of fans attended the team's mini-camp Tuesday and got a good look at the Jets' current quarterback competition. While projected starter Mark Sanchez was throwing a pass, a Jets fan could be heard saying, “he looks good out there, he is in control,” while another muttered, “False leadership.” Draft pick Geno Smith and Sanchez took turns running the offense, but pay no mind to the order in which the names are written. Fantastic Finish to Charitable All-Star Football Classic

There's nothing quite like a big time spring football game.  About 80 of the finest football players from around North Jersey gathered Tuesday for the 2013 Paul Robeson All-Star Football Classic, and this year it was an instant classic. The West blocked a field goal as time expired to win 13-12. Senior football players from Essex and eastern Passaic County comprised the East All-Stars, and seniors from Morris, Sussex, Warren and western Passaic counties formed the West All-Stars. Weather Pushes Games to Sunday, New Schedule Set

Baseball, softball state championship games postponed to Sunday.

Update: Friday 1:30 p.m. There has been no announcement of changes to the Tournament of Champions lacrosse games at Kean University on Saturday night.  This is the new softball and baseball schedule for Sunday as released by the NJSIAA: Baseball Softball --- Update: Friday 1:10 p.m.  At the moment the Lacrosse Tournament of Champions finals at Kean University are still on as scheduled.  Baseball and softball games have been pushed to Sunday. A confirmed schedule has not yet been released. It looks as if games will take place in the same order at the same locations. Times may be adjusted. MetLife Stadium to Host Chelsea FC, Valencia, A.C. Milan and Inter Milan In August

The inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup is scheduled for early August, and MetLife Stadium was chosen as a host.

MetLife Stadium has been named as the site for the second round matches of the Guinness International Champions Cup, bringing powerhouse clubs such as Chelsea FC and A.C. Milan to North Jersey this summer.  Seven European soccer teams, including Chelsea FC, A.C. Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus, will participate in the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup. The eight-team tournament also includes the L.A. Galaxy as the U.S. representative. A.C. Milan, Valencia, Chelsea and Inter Milan are the four teams that have been placed in the Eastern division and all four will compete at MetLife Stadium on August 4. More Than $22K Raised for Cancer Research in Hackettstown This Year

Relay for Life event will kick off on Friday.

Hackettstown is coming together to fight cancer this week by raising thousands of dollars to fund research and running for the cause in the Relay for Life of Greater Hackettstown annual event. Already, 30 teams made up of 191 participants from the Hackettstown area have signed up to contribute and attend Friday's overnight relay run/walk. A total of $22,108.72 had been raised by Tuesday, according to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Greater Hackettstown web page. The event will kick off Friday at 4 p.m. at the Field of Dreams at 21 Cemetery Road in Greater Meadows. Fall Field Hockey Signups Begin for Local Players in Hackettstown

Girls in grades 2 through 8 can participate in league.

With the summer barely here, parents are already planning for activities to keep their kids busy when the new school year begins this fall.  In the spirit of planning ahead, the Independence Fall 2013 Girls Field Hockey league will begin to sign players up on June 1. The league, which is open to girls in grades 2 through 8, is available for players from Hackettstown, Independence Township, Allamuchy and Liberty. Registration can be completed in person on June 1 and June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Green Acres Pavilion in Independence. Questions about the league or players' eligibility can be asked in person during either of the registration dates.

Yankees Help Bring New Rival for Red Bulls

New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.

The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. Hackettstown Beats Shabazz in First Round of State Baseball Tourney

Tigers will move on to face Lyndhurst in second round of NJSIAA tournament.

The Hackettstown High School boys baseball team is moving on to the second round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament after defeating Shabazz High School of Newark 12-4 Monday, according to NJ.com. Hackettstown, seeded 8, will now move on in the tournament to face No. 1-seeded Lyndhurst in the second round on Friday. The Tigers' win came after Owen Gavin had five strong innings, allowing four runs on three hits, eight strikeouts and three walks, NJ.com reported.

The Centenary College Cyclones softball team finished the 2013 season with a record of 20-14, marking their fifth consecutive season with at least 20 wins as well as a fifth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) appearance.  This season head coach Kim Broking, who has been at the helm for each of the previous five seasons, also led the team to its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament appearance since 2009.
