More than $300 raised by Centenary College students to benefit the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

Centenary College Assistant Professor of Business Heather Pelletier focused on an experiential learning exercise with her students this semester. The assignment was to build awareness or raise funds or items for a local organization. A group of her students worked with the Salvation Army to sell "Restore the Shore" bracelets, which will benefit the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. Commencement ceremony will include Peace Prize announcement, speech from college president.
The County College of Morris (CCM) will graduate more than 1,100 students Thursday as the college hosts its 44th annual commencement ceremony. CCM President Edward Yaw will serve as the speaker of the event, which begins at 7 p.m. To highlight the graduation ceremony, the school will announce this year's Peace Prize winner, Alisa Brescic of Budd Lake. "Students were invited to create works focused on the general theme of world peace while expressing themselves through a number of artistic forms including writing, music, dance or visual arts," the college noted in a press release. Town hall meetings will invite parents to discuss the issue and what can be done about it.
Parents will have the opportunity to meet and discuss underage drinking and ways they can prevent their kids from accessing alcohol during several town hall meetings beginning this week. The four meetings are organized by Community Prevention Resources of Warren County's Community Action Partnership in collaboration with the Warren/Sussex Regional Coalition. Meetings will be held in local high schools, the first of which will be held at Hackettstown High School on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the discussions, a panel of police officers, drug counselors, emergency room nurses, health professionals, lawyers, school administrators, insurance professionals and others will help lead a talk about issues surrounding underage drinking…

School cites declining enrollment, loss of revenue as reasons to shut its doors.
This will be the last year students will attend St. Mary's School in Hackettstown as the school is planning to shut its doors next month, according to the Warren Reporter. The Rev. David Pekola, of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, announced the closing on Wednesday. While the school, which currently has 152 students, already has 110 students registered for next year, Pekola told parents that a minimum of 200 students would need to have been enrolled next year for the school to survive financially. St. Mary's, a K-8 school, is governed by the Diocese of Metuchen.

As 415 students sit anxiously awaiting receipt of their diplomas Saturday, television producer Lou Reda will present the keynote speech at Centenary College's 138th commencement ceremony. During the ceremony, which will begin at 1 p.m. on the front lawn of Smith Hall, a total of 415 undergraduate and graduate students from the college's Hackettstown, Parsippany and Edison campuses and centers will graduate. Reda is most well-known for military-themed television programs and miniseries, such as the 1982 CBS series "The Blue and the Gray," and most recently "WWII," narrated by Gary Sinise, and "Vietnam," narrated by Michael C. Centenary College Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Sociology Christopher Linne and his family recently received the Alumni Service Award from the County College of Morris (CCM) at its Scholarship Gala. CCM alumnus Linne; his wife, Jan; and daughter, Jennifer, who also graduated from CCM, established the Linne Family Scholarship through the CCM Foundation. The Scholarship supports a full-time out-of-county/state student majoring in Business Administration or Criminal Justice who demonstrates need and is planning to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program upon graduation. Brittany Hollman of Hackettstown recently graduated from Champlain College. Hollman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations with a possible specialization and/or minor. The Champlain College 135th Commencement took place outdoors, under a tent on Edmunds Field in Burlington on May 4. In all, 470 undergraduates earned their degrees. Vermont novelist and New York Times Bestseller, Chris Bohjalian delivered the Commencement address to degree candidates. Sidewalk and other work to begin in 2014.
Centenary College will be receiving an $800,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation (DOT) to assist with a project to enhance the college's sidewalks and streetscape. Centenary's grant is part of $86.5 million that is being awarded in local aid grants through the NJDOT.
