Judge says a year of meeting conditions could lead to a dismissal of sexual assault charge.
If he meets a list of conditions over the next year, a 16-year-old Mt. Olive boy could have a charge of sexual assault of an intoxicated girl dismissed, a judge ruled Wednesday. The teen, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was granted a “deferred disposition,” by Judge Micheal Paul Wright, according to nj.com. The teen admitted to a fourth-degree charge of invasion of privacy, but his attorney maintained that the sexual contact was consensual in September 2012. Mt. Olive Police received a call on a Saturday night in September from a parent who feared her daughter was drunk at a Flanders residence, police reported last year. When officers arrived at the home shortly before 8:30 p.m., the female was found in an upstairs bedroom…

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transportation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is this a reasonable proposal? According to a 2011 Mothers Against Drunk Driving report, the latest available data shows New Jersey ranked 31st out of 51 states (including the District of Columbia) in drunken driving injuries and deaths. That year, there were 193 DUI fatalities, MADD said. About 10,000 deaths nationwide a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American …
Bridge deck replacement project in full swing; westbound traffic detoured for next two months.
A break away barricade has been set up at the intersection of Route 57 and Airport Road for motorists heading west, and will only be passable to residents of Kings Highway, Washington Township police said. The detour, which will route drivers onto Airport Road in Mansfield, is expected to be in effect for two months, Lt. Doug Compton said. Traffic on Route 57 heading east will continue to flow normally, but drivers looking to enter the lower sections of Old Turnpike Road and Stephensburg Road will need to use Pleasant Grove Road, Compton said. Work in the area to replace bridge decks began in February, and was originally estimated to last eight months. The project is being completed by H&G Contractors from Ridgewood. Truck traffic has been…
