9-Month Rt. 46 Bridge Replacement Project Begins Next Week

Rt. 46 stretch will completely shut for one week in August, one lane of alternating traffic expected during project.

Roadwork on a bridge connecting Washington Township to Warren County is scheduled to begin this month and will change traffic patterns for up to nine months.

And we’re not talking about that other bridge project. But that one is ready to go, too.

The Rt. 46 bridge connecting Washington Township and Hackettstown, which lets the Musconetcong River flow beneath it, is being completely replaced. The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16, according to Lt. Doug Compton.

One the project begins, the traffic pattern will change and allow for just one lane of alternating travel, Compton said. The hours of operation will be 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

From Aug. 19 to Aug. 26, the stretch of roadway between the intersection of Rt. 46 and East Avenue and the intersection of Rt. 46 and Rt. 182 in Hackettstown will be completely closed, Compton said. On Aug. 27, the road will re-open to allow for one alternating lane of travel.

That traffic pattern is expected to remain in effect until the project’s completion in March 2015.

J. Flechter Creamer & Sons, Inc. of Hackensack will be completing the project in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

On June 24, the bridge connecting Washington Township and Mansfield Township on Newburgh Road is scheduled to shut down that entire roadway to through traffic for a replacement project expected to last an entire year.
