The widow of a man killed in a Dec. 2 collision with a 50-ton trailer on Interstate 280 in Parsippany filed suit Tuesday against the company that owns the truck and is seeking damages and further relief, NJ.com reported.

Mt. Olive resident Donna Peltz states in her action that Mountain View Development and Contracting Co. Inc., of Califon, allegedly failed to inspect the trailer "in a proper, careful manner," which resulted in the death of her husband. The suit wants the court to find the company liable for the alleged negligence of its driver, Craig Wallenstein, the article said.

The plaintiff's husband, 51-year-old Steven Peltz, was driving a Honda on I-280 west at about 2 p.m. on Dec. 2, when a lowboy trailer became detached from the 2007 New Jersey Western Star tractor pulling it and crashed into his car, the article said. The father of two was declared dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer was impounded and the State Police Commercial Vehicle inspection Unit is investigating.
