Teen Accused of Hit-and-Run Crash
17-year-old struck a stop sign and a stone wall Monday afternoon near corner of Mitchell Road and Victoria Lane, police said.
A 17-year-old Hackettstown resident was involved in a hit-and-run crash when he struck a stop sign and damaged a stone wall Monday afternoon near the intersection of Mitchell Road and Victoria Lane, police said.
The teen, whose identity was not released due to his age, took a 2001 Dodge from the Hackettstown High School parking lot without the owner's permission and traveled southbound on Mitchell Lane, didn't see a turn in time and struck the stop sign and stone wall at about 1:40 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
The teen then drove the vehicle back to the high school parking lot where officers found it during their investigation, Tynan said.
The 17-year-old was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving and failure to maintain lane. The teen was released pending a court appearance.
