Swimming Man Charged After Hatchery Pond Incident

Police said man climbed a fence to swim in the state fish hatchery.

A Virginia man was charged with disorderly conduct Thursday after Hackettstown police said he climbed a fence and swam in the state fish hatchery pond.

Nicholas Bashore, 34, of Annandale, VA, was arrested after officers found him chest-deep in the pond (at 23 Reese Avenue) just after 10 a.m., according to Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan.

Police determined that Bashore had climbed over a fence near Mitchell Road and entered the pond, Tynan said. New Jersey Fish and Game was notified.

Bashore was transported to the police station and later released with a date to appear in court.
