Rifles, Loads of Ammo Found in Car, Police Say

A North Carolina man traveling along Route 46 Wednesday night was arrested after police found multiple guns and boxes of ammunition, Mt. Olive Police Officer Michael Russell said.

Eric Johnson, 64, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and manufacture of a dangerous weapon after police conducted a search of his vehicle, Russell said.

Johnson was stopped at 9:52 p.m. by Det. Michael Zarro for an equipment violation, Russell said. Johnson gave his consent for a search of the vehicle, which yielded two rifles, multiple high capacity magazines, handgun accessories, and numerous boxes of ammunition, Russell said.

Johnson was attempting to sell the guns, Russell said.

Johnson was arrested and charged, with all findings being seized, Russell said. He was later released on his own recognizance, Russell said.

Assisting at the scene was the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
