Harassment Charges Served to Man Who Followed Women, Cops Say

Mansfield man said he was just trying to give one of the women his phone number, according to police.

A Mansfield man who may have been trying to score a date ended up in handcuffs in Hackettstown Wednesday after he was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct.

Amer Ahmad, 31, was arrested after police arrived at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center just after 4 p.m., according to Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan. When officers arrived, two females told police that they were being followed by Ahmad, Tynan said.

The females, whose ages were not mentioned by police, said they had noticed Ahmad had followed them to Kohl's and then to Wal-Mart in Mansfield Township, Tynan said. They then left the Wal-Mart parking lot and drove to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center where they called police.

While being questioned by police, Ahmad told the officers that he was simply attempting to give one of the females his phone number, Tynan said. Ahmad was arrested and later released with a date to appear in court.
