Hackettstown High School Trash Can Fire Under Investigation

School employees extinguished the fire, which caused no damage to the classroom and no one was injured.

Authorities are investigating what caused a trash can to catch on fire late Thursday afternoon in an unoccupied classroom at Hackettstown High School.

School employees extinguished the fire at about 5 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

According to Tynan, the Hackettstown police and fire departments responded to the high school shortly for an activated fire alarm and found smoke and chemicals from a fire extinguisher in the hallway.

There was no damage to the classroom and no one was injured, Tynan said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Hackettstown Police Department Detective Bureau, the Warren County Fire Marshal and the Mount Olive Fire Marshal.
