Businesses in Hackettstown are being put on alert for an alleged imposter posing as a fire inspector, police said.
On Friday at 9:30 a.m., a white man went into a local business acting as a fire inspector, Sgt. Darren Tynan said. It was then determined the neither town fire marshal or county fire marshal sent a representative to the business, Tynan said.
The person is described as having a stocky build, either bald or has very short hair, wears glasses, and at the time was wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes, Tynan said.
People are urged to ask for identification of anyone saying they’re in a business to do an inspection. Call the Hackettstown Police at 908-852-3300 if you are unable to confirm their identity.
