Drunken Driver Spits on Officer, Resists Arrest, Police Say

A Pennsylvania man refused to get out of his car, spit on an officer and kicked a table at police headquarters after he was arrested for drunken driving Friday night on Route 46, Hackettstown Police said.

David Brotzman, 43, of Easton, Pa., was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to the Alcotest, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving and failure to exhibit his driver's license.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, police received a report of a possible drunken driver on Route 517 heading toward Hackettstown at about 6 p.m. Friday.

The vehicle was spotted and pulled over on Route 46, but the driver refused to exit the car, Tynan said.

Brotzman "grabbed onto the steering wheel and wedged his foot into the door jam of the car to prevent him from being removed from the vehicle," Tynan said.

Brotzman was eventually arrested and transported to police headquarters where he spit on an officer and then kicked a table into the officer, Tynan said.

Brotzman was transported to the Warren County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail.
