Hackettstown Educator ‘Coach T’ Dies at 60

Allan Scott Tomlinson taught in the school district for 31 years.

Allan Scott Tomlinson spent more than 30 years teaching and coaching in the Hackettstown school system, garnering recognition for his efforts.

The educator, who retired in 2008, died at age 60 on Friday, July 18, according to his obituary.

Tomlinson grew up in Belvidere, graduating from high school there in 1972. He then graduated William Penn University in 1976 and began teaching in the Hackettstown school district shortly thereafter.

During his time there Tomlinson taught in the elementary, middle and high schools. Tomlinson coached girls and boys basketball, girls cross country, track, and football. In 1986 he was named the Daily Record’s Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year, and in 2000 he was chosen as Warren County’s boys basketball coach of the year.

Tomlinson was an elder at Hackettstown First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Therese, a son, daughter, and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Cochrane Funeral Home on High Street Tuesday, July 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be held in the Hackettstown First Presbyterian Church chapel on July 23 at 11 a.m.
