Arbor Day Activities for Homeschool Families

On Friday, April 25, 2014 Homeschool families are invited to the garden at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum to celebrate Arbor Day.  2014 marks the 130th Arbor Day celebration in New Jersey. The first official celebration in New Jersey was in 1884.  Families can also take part in a presentation from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Master Tree Steward Program of Union County. From 1 to 4 pm registered families can participate in tree-related art projects including creating a leaf rubbing booklet to take home and working on a group mural commemorating Arbor Day 2014.  While enjoying the beauty of the trees, families can try our “Tracking Trees” scavenger hunt and learn more about the Museum garden’s sassafras tree which is the second largest in New Jersey.  Pre-registration is required.  Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org to pre-register.  The cost for the program is $15 per family.
