Running unopposed in the General Election, school board members Gus Bordi and Shawn Burke were re-elected to their seats on the Hackettstown Public School Board of Education Tuesday.
Joseph Clarke was elected to a seat on the board via write-in vote. Clarke is already a member of the board, but was appointed to his seat after the deadline to file for this year's ballot.
Clarke received 90 write-in votes total from the seven voting districts.
Despite running uncontested, Bordi received 1,419 votes and Burke garnered 1,571 votes from Hackettstown residents.
Earlier in 2012, Governer Chris Christie gave school boards in the state the option to move their elections from the final Tuesday in April to the same date as the general election. Hackettstown Public Schools took up on that opportunity, which is locked in for the next four years.

I like it when write-ins win an election. It shows that democracy can truly work for the people, if we allow it to. www.firebrandcentral.com
