Driver Operated Taxi Cab Illegally, Cops Say
Business owner did not have proper certifications to operate vehicle, police report.
A Great Meadows man received several summonses after police said he was improperly working as a taxi cab driver, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
Sergio Rojas, 31, owner of Metro Car Service, was issued summonses for not being licensed in Hackettstown, not having the vehicle inspected by the town of Hackettstown, not having the vehicle inspected by the state, not having taxi insurance, not having the business in the town of Hackettstown, not being fingerprinted or photographed by the town of Hackettstown, and maintenance of lamps.
Police observed Rojas pull up to the Laundry Basket at 80 Main St. and pick up an individual in front of the store, Tynan said. The officer then initiated the traffic stop due to a broken brake light, Tynan said.
During an investigation it was learned Rojas has picked up the person and charged $6 for the taxi service, Tynan said.
Rojas was given a court appearance.
