Air Freshener Stuffed in Man's Pants in Store 'Disturbance,' Cops Say
Pair charged with disorderly conduct following incident at Quick Chek.
Two men were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when they caused quite a scene in the Mountain Avenue Quick Chek last week, Hackettstown Police said.
When police arrived at the convenience store at about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 8, they found Erick Bernard, 25, of Easton, Pa., and Hunter Lewis, 18, of Phillipsburg, "impaired and causing a disturbance," Sgt. Darren Tynan said. Employees in the store told police the men were "staggering and falling into the shelves" when they entered, Tynan said.
The men left the store and got into a vehicle that was left running in the parking lot, Tynan said. Officers stopped them before they were able to exit the parking lot, Tynan said.
Officers found two energy drinks Bernard allegedly shoplifted from the store, along with an air freshener stolen from the store's bathroom tucked inside the front of his pants, Tynan said. Lewis assisted Bernard in stealing the items, Tynan said.
Lewis was charged with disorderly conduct and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Bernard was charged with disorderly conduct, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, criminal mischief, driving while suspended, driving under the influence and leaving a motor vehicle with the engine running.
