This is the 2nd time within a week in that same area. Does is have anything to do with the newly paved roadway?

That's a dangerous stretch of highway. It's two lanes of traffic going each way, with cars travelling around 60 MPH, but unlike Rte 10, there's ne median between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

I used to live right there and there are always accidents, and always have been, it's a bad area, too many cars going in too many different direction.

How about we have some respect for the deceased and reserve judgement until the facts are known?

its a bad section of the road, espically when people want to get into the BP station. I use that jug handle all the time to go to the BP or the board office, and have asked my family to do the same.

Hookerman is spot on. A median separating the lanes would definitely help, as people are always flying on 46 (a MAJOR commuting zone, with less than 10 feet between them and cars coming just as fast the other way). Add the elements of people texting, pulling out of the many businesses down each side of the highway and cutting off traffic, constant traffic lights, etc., and you have a very dangerous stretch. It only takes one person not paying attention to drift over the yellow line slightly and cause an accident, which appears to have been the case this morning. RIP to the victim.

That area of 46 is a death trap. You have a busy highway with people speeding at 50-60 mph and then you get someone stopped in the left lane trying to cross over into the strip malls. Also, there are no shoulders.

i was recently in a very bad car accident. No injuries - seat belt saved me....

Now the only question is WHEN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY AND MORRIS COUNTY WILL FIX THE STRETCH OF 46 THAT RUNS FROM WOLFE ROAD ALL THE WAY TO THE ITC.

Just terribly sad...that road is bad, as is many spots on 206! You just never know what a day will bring.. I had a tire blow out right in that spot 3 months ago from crap left in the road way, and no way to avoid it....

The world lost a good person today. Chris is my cousin and Michelle lost a great husband and the kids lost a great father. Please keep Michelle, the kids and our entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. RIP Chris......you will be deeply missed!!!!!

Okay everyone, chill the hell out. First of all, when that comment was posted, NO NEWS had been released that there was a fatality (if so, I never would have posted it). Please put the pitchforks away. At the time, it had just been a news story about a serious traffic accident that involved someone crossing over the dotted yellow, an accident that had disrupted thousands of commuters like many other Rt. 46 accidents in the past.

2-When the news was released that there WAS a fatality, you will notice I said RIP to the victim.

3- I then deleted my initial post as I did not want people to take it the wrong way (as I mentioned, that post was made after my commute to work was delayed 30 minutes, when NO ONE knew that someone had died.)

My initial post was not meant to disrespect anyone, and from what I can see the victim (Chris) was a very beloved guy. It is terrible what happened and devastatingly sad for his family left behind.

I find it sad that people are still harping on it (Owen) even after the post was deleted, however it is more sad what happened to a very young guy. Again, RIP to Chris and God Bless his family and friends left behind.

As a Belvidere resident, I've seen Mr. Connors often. He once pulled a man out of a burning trailer and saved his life. It was the talk of the town for days. He will be missed greatly by his wife, kids, and many friends.

Bad road. Really sorry for Mr. Connors' family. And I hope the Gascoignes have speedy recoveries. I always drive in the right-hand lane to avoid the on-coming traffic--it's scary, especially during rush hours. Pay attention, drivers!

AS STATED, the INITIAL single line comment that sparked the replies here was made IMMEDIATLY after the initial article was posted, when it was NOTHING MORE than breaking news of a traffic accident in Mount Olive. That comment (regarding people not paying attention on the roadway) was deleted IMMEDIATLY upon finding out that there was a fatality, in order to avoid a misunderstanding (as I CERTAINLY would not want something to think I would ever be disrespectful to those that had lost a loved one). Also, YOU are the one that jumped to conclusions, with your statement that people should know that these articles are updated. Like myself, anyone who is NEW to this site and who just wanted to find out WHY they had been delayed on their commute to work would not have a clue. It was simply a traffic update at that time, with news of nothing more than an accident on Rt. 46.

It's difficult for me to imagine that after the gazillions spent in public service advertising, police vigilance, etc. that people still don't wear their seat-belts (especially people with 4 children). Wouldn't you want to give your family every advantage should you be in a violent accident? Maybe this is one of those terrible life lessons learned here. . .

My heart goes out to all families involved. I have lived in the area over 25 years, this stretch of Rt46 has always been dangerous. The state needs to allocate some money to provide safety measures. Everyone should contact state representatives to get the word out. Its only when taxpayers complain that something gets moved up on the list of things to fix. Lets make this a priority before any more lives are lost.

This is a true tragedy, I drive the devils highway everyday. From Netting to just past Wolfe Rd. It is a dangerous drive with no shoulders or median, there is no room for error. My prayers go out to the family and friends. I lost a very close friend a year ago on the same stretch of highway, too many accidents!!!!!

We had proposed a concrete barrier on the yellow line to keep head on traffic from crossing the lines. We were told the local buisness would complain and would suffer a loss of customers. Maybe now they will consider this!!

I also drive this stretch of Budd Lake roadway very often and have never had a problem. As for state mandated changes, medians, surface changes, etc. there are a just a few simple rules that will stop all of the accidents here: Slow down. Pay attention. Drive defensively. Everything else is superfluous. It's not the road it's the bad drivers! Somebody in this accident crossed the middle! Somebody was either flying, not paying attention or both. It didn't "just happen."

RIP Chris and my thoughts are with your family. Remember everyone not to judge who knows why he wasn't buckled. Sometimes things just get forgotten. Sad but true. This man saved another mans life just this year. Be kind and keep your opinions if they aren't kind to yourself.

When people make accusations on what might have gone wrong you need to think of all the people he left behind. A beautiful family and loving friends. Not one person will ever know what really happened except for Chris and he is now watching over over all of us especially his family. My youngest daughter was really good friends with his daughter and she and the rest of the family is hurting. So unless you were in the car with Chris than stop making accusations on what went wrong and just send your love and prayers to the family in their time of need. God bless you Michelle and family. You will always have a friend around you to help you get through this tough time. Chris will be deeply missed in all of our hearts and our hearts go out to you in your time of sadness. Stay strong for your kids that's what Chris would want you to do.

Diggy. Seriously you need to delete your comment about not wearing your seatbelt! You mean to tell me you never once forgot to put it on? Who is to say it would of made a difference. And pointing out he had 4 children? Are you a jerk or what? To each his own. We don't know why or what happened but you need to delete your comment. I'm 200% sure that he taught his kids to wear their seatbelts even if for some reason he was not at this time.
